Google patents faster search results by checking multiple apps at once
This filing describes a system that takes a voice command and searches several media apps on your device simultaneously. It also checks a central database for the answer, allowing the screen to show results from both sources before the local app search is fully finished.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure is generally related to a data processing system to coordinate parallel processing of audio queries across multiple devices. A data processing system can receive an audio input signal detected the display device and parse the audio input signal to identify an entity. The data processing system can transmit a query command to the display device to cause a multimedia content application to perform a search for the entity. The data processing system can access at least one of an address database and a multimedia content provider to identify a reference address for the entity. The data processing system can provide the reference address for the entity to cause the display device to present a content selection interface. The content selection interface can include an element for the reference address, prior to completion of the search for the entity performed by the multimedia content application.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method implemented by one or more processors, the method comprising: receiving, from a client device, a data packet comprising an input query; selecting, based on a frequency of usage of a plurality of multimedia content applications associated with the client device, a subset of the plurality of multimedia content applications; generating, based on the input query, a query command comprising (i) an entity referenced in the input query and (ii) application identifiers corresponding to the subset of the plurality of multimedia content applications; transmitting the query command to the client device, the query command configured to cause the client device to initiate a local search for the entity within the subset of the plurality of multimedia content applications to generate a first response associated with the entity; obtaining a second response associated with the entity; and transmitting, to the client device, (iii) the second response associated with the entity and (iv) instructions that cause the client device to render a content selection interface that includes both the first response and the second response.
