Samsung patents AI-driven split-screen layout for apps
Samsung describes a method where a phone detects when a second app is opened while the first is running. It sends this event to an AI model, which suggests how to arrange both apps on the screen, and the device then displays the split view.
In the filing’s own words
An electronic device may include: a display; a communication module; a memory; and at least one processor operatively connected to the display, the communication module, and the memory. The memory may store instructions that are executed by the at least one processor to cause the electronic device to: execute a first application to display an execution screen of the first application on at least a partial area of the display; detect a first event for triggering configuration of a multi-window layout according to the execution of a second application while the first application is being executed; in response to the detection of the first event, generate a prompt including information related to the detected first event and a task request for requesting the configuration of the multi-window layout; and transfer the generated prompt to an artificial intelligence (AI) model.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device, comprising: a display; a communication module comprising communication circuitry; a memory; and at least one processor, comprising processing circuitry, operatively connected to the display, the communication module, and the memory, wherein the memory stores instructions that when executed by at least one processor, individually and/or collectively, cause the electronic device to: execute a first application to display an execution screen of the first application on at least a partial area of the display; in a state in which the first application is being executed, detect a first event triggering a configuration of a multi-window layout according to execution of a second application; in response to the detection of the first event, generate a prompt comprising information related to the detected first event and a task request for requesting the configuration of the multi-window layout; deliver the generated prompt to an artificial intelligence (AI) model; receive, from the AI model, a task response comprising information related to a multi-window layout to be configured in response to the first event; and based on the received task response, configure a multi-window layout comprising the execution screen of the first application and an execution screen of the second application, to display the multi-window layout on at least a partial area of the display.
