Google patents smart home summaries that filter device status by user context
This patent describes a method for creating short text updates about multiple smart home devices. It uses neural networks to filter which device statuses are shown based on the user's current situation and past habits, then displays the relevant information alongside options to change specific settings.
In the filing’s own words
Implementing methods to provide a shortened textual summary that includes status information that is most pertinent to the user for a plurality of connected smart devices. The method includes determining a list of current statuses for a plurality of enabled smart devices and filtering the list to remove statuses that may not be of interest to the user. The filtering of the list is based on a current context of the requesting user and one or more previous contexts of the user. The resulting filtered statuses are then converted to textual snippets, summarized, and provided to the user via one or more output devices.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A computer implemented method, comprising: determining one or more current statuses of a plurality of smart appliances accessible to a user, wherein a first current status of a first smart appliance, of the one or more current statuses of the plurality of smart appliances, is different than a second current status of a second smart appliance, of the one or more current statuses of the plurality of smart appliances; determining a current user context based on one or more contextual signals generated by one or more computing devices controlled by the user; identifying, from a plurality of past user contexts, one or more comparable past user contexts that are comparable to the current user context; based on one or more of the comparable past user contexts, generating, using one or more neural networks, a textual summary of one or more of the current statuses of the plurality of smart appliances accessible to the user; providing the textual summary to an output device of one or more of the computing devices controlled by the user; and causing the textual summary to be rendered via the output device along with an indication that the user may provide input to alter the first current status of the first smart appliance, wherein causing the indication to be rendered is based on determining that the first current status of the first smart appliance is different than the second current status of the second smart appliance.
