Sony patents visual cues for muting and soloing sound sources

Sony has been granted a patent for a system that visually indicates which audio elements are muted or soloed in a digital workspace. The technology changes the appearance of specific sound sources on a screen to show their current status, helping users see which tracks are active or silenced.

Why it mattersThis could make audio editing software easier to use by providing clear visual feedback on which sounds are being heard or hidden.

In the filing’s own words

The present technology relates to an information processing apparatus and method, and a program that enable more efficient edit. The information processing apparatus includes a control unit that selects and groups a plurality of objects existing in a predetermined space, and changes the positions of the plurality of the objects while maintaining the relative positional relationship of the plurality of the grouped objects in the space. The present technology can be applied to information processing apparatuses.

What exactly they claim (claim 1)

1. An information processing apparatus comprising: circuitry comprising: a control unit configured to perform one or more mute settings, or one or more solo settings for one or more sound sources according to one or more user specifications; and a display control unit configured to set a display state of at least one of the sound sources to a first display state or a second display state, such that in a case wherein at least one of the mute settings is performed, the display state of at least one of the sound sources is set to the second display state, and in another case wherein at least one of the solo settings is performed for the at least one of the sound sources, the display state of another of the sound sources is set to the second display state, wherein the at least one of the sound sources is different from the another of the sound sources.
