Amazon patents NFC door signs that verify building access
Amazon describes a system where a mobile phone taps a wall-mounted NFC tag to check if it has been tampered with. If the tag is valid, the phone connects to a server to verify the user's identity and allow building entry or connect to a resident's device.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure presents wall-mounted near field communication systems and related methods. One such system comprises a sign assembly having a near field communication (NFC) tag configured to determine if the NFC tag has been tampered with. A mobile phone may connect with the NFC tag. If the exchange is valid and the NFC tag has not been tampered with, the system may perform an action such as allowing building access, connecting the mobile device to a resident's device, etc. If the NFC tag has been tampered with, the system may prevent building access or the like.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A computer-implemented method, comprising: sending, by a first short distance wireless communication component of a mobile device, a first signal to a second short distance wireless communication component of a second device, the second device corresponding to an access point of a building; receiving, from the second short distance wireless communication component, a second signal including a first uniform resource locator (URL) and a cryptographic signature; sending, by a third wireless communication component of the mobile device, a third signal to a server associated with the first URL, the third signal including the cryptographic signature; receiving, by the third wireless communication component of the mobile device and from the server in response to the third signal, a fourth signal including data corresponding to a directory of residents of the building; rendering a user interface of the mobile device to display at least a portion of the directory; receiving an input to the user interface indicating a selection of a first resident of the building; and based at least in part on the input, performing a first action corresponding to the first resident of the building.
