Sony patents smarter handling of signal interference in full-duplex communication
Sony describes a communication device that decides when to use a digital tool to remove unwanted noise from signals. If the standard noise-cancelling method does not work, the device checks with the other device in the connection to figure out how to handle the interference.
In the filing’s own words
A communication device of the present disclosure includes a control unit. The control unit determines whether or not a digital interference canceller is applicable to a reception signal received in in-band full-duplex communication. In a case where it is determined that the digital interference canceller is not applicable, the control unit determines whether or not to apply the digital interference canceller to the reception signal. In a case where it is determined to apply the digital interference canceller, the control unit determines to perform processing for applying the digital interference canceller with another communication device with which the in-band full-duplex communication is performed.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A communication device comprising: a control unit that: determines whether or not a digital interference canceller is applicable to a reception signal received by in-band full-duplex communication; determines whether or not to apply the digital interference canceller to the reception signal in a case where it is determined that the digital interference canceller is not applicable; and in a case where it is determined to apply the digital interference canceller, determines to perform processing for applying the digital interference canceller with another communication device that performs the in-band full-duplex communication.
