Samsung patents photo fix that swaps closed eyes for open ones
Samsung has filed a patent for a camera feature that detects when someone blinks in a burst of photos. It replaces the closed eyes in the best photo with open eyes from a pre-stored image, then aligns the rest of the picture to match.
In the filing’s own words
An electronic device includes one or more cameras, a display, at least one processor, and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to obtain multiple images in response to a shooting request; determine a first reference image based on one or more of sharpness, brightness, or capture time; identify at least one object with a closed-eye state in the first reference image; generate a second reference image by combining a prestored eye-area image with the object's eye area in the first reference image; calculate a movement difference between the second reference image and remaining images while excluding eye areas identified as closed; and display an image synthesized from the plurality of images based on the calculated movement difference.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device comprising: one or more cameras; a display; at least one processor; and a memory storing instructions, wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to: obtain a plurality of images comprising one or more objects by using the one or more cameras, in response to a shooting request from a user; determine a first reference image among the plurality of images, based on one or more of sharpness, brightness, or capture time associated with each of the images; identify at least one object in a closed-eye state from the first reference image; obtain a second reference image by combining a prestored eye area image with an eye area of the at least one object in the first reference image; calculate a movement difference between the second reference image and remaining images while excluding, in the remaining images, any eye area identified as being in a closed-eye state; and display, on the display, an image obtained by synthesizing the plurality of images, based on the calculated movement difference.
