Nvidia patents digital twin to simulate datacenter operations
Nvidia describes a system that creates a 3D digital copy of a datacenter to test how it will perform under specific conditions. The simulation runs predicted workloads and uses a trained language model to answer questions about maintenance or job scheduling.
In the filing’s own words
Approaches presented herein provide for simulations of real-world actions to be performed in a complex computing environment, such as a datacenter. A digital twin of a datacenter can be generated, which may include a set of 3 D models of functional and interconnected components, and a set of configurations can be generated that represent the state of the datacenter at different times. In order to run an accurate simulation, the appropriate configuration can be loaded for the physical digital twin to represent the state of the datacenter at a specific point in time. A workflow can be identified that represents the jobs that will likely be running at that point in time, and those jobs can be performed in the simulation. A trained language model can be used to run queries to obtain information about the simulated operations in the datacenter. This may include, for example, asking about the best time to run a job, the best time to perform maintenance, an appropriate time to perform an update or installation, or an improved configuration that can be used.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A system, comprising: one or more processing units to: generate a digital representation of a datacenter; specify a configuration to use with the digital representation, the configuration representing parameters of the datacenter at a current point in time or a future point in time; execute a simulation of the datacenter using the configuration with the digital representation, the simulation running a workflow representing anticipated requirements of one or more processing jobs to be performed at the current or future point in time; and provide, in response to a prompt received to a language model trained with respect to the datacenter, information about the simulation being executed.
