Apple patents seeing around corners using cameras in other rooms
Apple has filed a patent for a system that lets a user view a hidden part of a room by switching to a camera located elsewhere. When you look toward an obstacle, the device detects this and displays live footage from a second camera positioned to see the blocked area.
In the filing’s own words
Various implementations disclosed herein include devices, systems, and methods that enable a user at a first location to view reprojected content from a camera at a second location from a point of view of the user. For example, a process may present a first view from a first viewpoint within a first location within an environment. The first view may include an obstacle preventing the first view from including a portion of a second location within the environment. The process may further detect a triggering condition associated with viewing the second location and in response, the process may further present a second view of the environment generated based on image data captured from a second viewpoint within the second location.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method comprising: at an electronic device having a processor and one or more displays: presenting, via the one or more displays, a first view from a first viewpoint within a first location within an environment, wherein the first view includes an obstacle preventing the first view from including a portion of a second location within the environment, the second location different than the first location; detecting a triggering condition associated with viewing the second location; and based on detecting the triggering condition, presenting a second view of the environment, wherein the portion of the second location is included in the second view based on image data from an image sensor capturing image data from a second viewpoint within the second location.
