Samsung patents robots that plan paths to travel in a line
Samsung describes a method where a lead robot receives details about a follower robot, such as its size or speed. It then calculates a route that allows both machines to pass through a space one after the other without colliding.
In the filing’s own words
A robot, a computer-readable recording medium and a method of controlling the robot are provided. The robot includes a driver, memory for storing at least one instruction, characteristic information of the robot and map data, an interface; and at least one processor. The at least one processor when executing the at least one instruction causes the robot to, based on obtaining, through the interface, characteristic information of at least one external robot that is to travel by following the robot, store the characteristic information of the at least one external robot in the memory, based on at least one of the characteristic information of the robot, the map data, and the characteristic information of the at least one external robot, set a path through which the robot and the at least one external robot can sequentially pass within the space, and control the driver to travel along the path.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A robot comprising: a driver; memory for storing at least one instruction, characteristic information of the robot, and map data for a space; an interface; and at least one processor, wherein the at least one processor when executing the at least one instruction causes the robot to: based on obtaining, through the interface, characteristic information of at least one external robot configured to travel by following the robot, store the characteristic information of the at least one external robot in the memory, based on at least one of the characteristic information of the robot, the map data, and the characteristic information of the at least one external robot, set a path through which the robot and the at least one external robot can sequentially pass within the space, and control the driver to travel based on the path.
