Samsung patents method to fill in missing data in 3D video streams
Samsung describes a way to process compressed 3D video data by using a hierarchy of settings to fill in missing information. The system looks at flags in the data stream to decide whether to copy settings from a broader group or use a standard default value.
In the filing’s own words
An apparatus includes a communication interface configured to receive a compressed bitstream and a processor operably coupled to the communication interface. The processor is configured to identify one or more flags included in the compressed bitstream each related to a corresponding parameter type. The processor is also configured to determine, based on the one or more flags, parameters for the corresponding parameter type of each of the one or more flags according to an established hierarchy between two or more of an atlas sequence parameter set (ASPS) level, an atlas frame parameter set (AFPS) level, and at least one meshpatch data unit (MDU) level of the compressed bitstream by copying parameter values between one or more of the ASPS level, the AFPS level, and the at least one MDU level and/or assigning default parameter values for the corresponding parameter type.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An apparatus comprising: a communication interface configured to receive a compressed bitstream; and a processor operably coupled to the communication interface, wherein the processor is configured to: identify one or more flags included in the compressed bitstream each related to a corresponding parameter type; and determine, based on the one or more flags, parameters for the corresponding parameter type of each of the one or more flags according to an established hierarchy between two or more of an atlas sequence parameter set (ASPS) level, an atlas frame parameter set (AFPS) level, and at least one meshpatch data unit (MDU) level of the compressed bitstream by copying parameter values between one or more of the ASPS level, the AFPS level, and the at least one MDU level and/or assigning default parameter values for the corresponding parameter type.
