Samsung patents glasses that switch from 3D to 2D view for alerts
Samsung describes a wearable device with two separate screens, one for each eye, that can show a 3D image by combining the two views. The system can automatically switch to a 2D mode, using only one screen, when a specific event happens, such as a notification or a change in movement speed.
In the filing’s own words
A wearable device is provided. The wearable device includes a first display module, a second display module, memory storing one or more computer programs, and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the first display module, the second display module, and the memory, wherein the one or more computer programs include computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors individually or collectively, cause the wearable device to output image data through the first display module and the second display module in a first mode, switch from the first mode to a second mode based on at least one of an occurrence of a notification event, a moving speed of the wearable device, or a type of an application executing on the wearable device, determine any one of the first display module or the second display module as an output display module in the second mode, and control the output display module to output the image data through the determined output display module.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A wearable device comprising: a glasses-shaped housing; a first display member and a second display member coupled with the glasses-shaped housing to substantially face eyes of a user when the wearable device is worn by the user; a first display module configured to provide an image to the user via the first display member; a second display module configured to provide an image to the user via the second display member; and a processor operably coupled with the first display module and the second display module, and configured to: perform a first displaying mode using the first and second display modules such that a three-dimensional image is outputted to the user via the first and second display members together using a first image provided by the first display module and a second image provided by the second display module, identify an occurrence of a specified event while the three-dimensional image is outputted via the first and second display members together, and based at least in part on the occurrence of the specified event, perform a second displaying mode using the first display module such that a two-dimensional image corresponding to the specified event is outputted to the user via the first display member, using a third image provided by the first display module, without outputting an image by the second display member for the two-dimensional image.
