Samsung patents system for robots to watch each other for safety
Samsung has filed a patent for a central electronic device that manages a group of robots. The system assigns specific robots to monitor the movements of others to ensure their actions are safe. If a monitored robot is doing something risky, the central device sends a command to stop or adjust its behavior.
In the filing’s own words
An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a communication interface and one or more processors configured to receive operation information of each of a plurality of robot devices through the communication interface, identify at least one first robot device from among the plurality of robot devices as a target device based on a plurality of pieces of operation information, control at least one robot device so that the at least one robot device from among the remaining robot devices monitors the target device, based on monitoring data being received from the at least one robot device that monitors the target device, identify whether an operation of the target device according to the operation is safe based on the monitoring data, and transmit a command for controlling the target device to the target device based on a result of the identification.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device comprising: a communication interface; at least one memory storing one or more instructions; and one or more processors in communication with the at least one memory and configured to execute the one or more instructions; wherein the one or more instructions, when executed by the one or more processors individually or collectively, cause the electronic device to: receive, through the communication interface, operation information of a plurality of robot devices, identify at least one first robot device as a target device and at least one second robot device as a monitoring device based on the operation information, control, through the communication interface, the target device to monitor the at least one second robot device, and based on receiving first monitoring data from the target device through the communication interface: identify whether an operation of the at least one second robot device is safe based on the first monitoring data, and transmit, through the communication interface, a command to the at least one second robot device.
