Apple patents method to match skin tones in combined 3D user models
Apple describes a technique for adjusting the color of a 3D model of one part of a user's body to match a sample 3D model of another part. The system filters out non-skin features from the sample to ensure accurate color matching before combining the parts into a single 3D representation.
In the filing’s own words
Various implementations disclosed herein include devices, systems, and methods that adjust a three-dimensional (3D) representation by adjusting one or more colors. For example, a process may include obtaining a 3D representation of at least a first portion of a user. The process may further include obtaining a sample 3D representation of at least a second portion of the user. The process may further include adjusting the first 3D representation by adjusting one or more colors of the first 3D representation based on colors in the first 3D representation and colors in the sample 3D representation. The process may further include providing the adjusted first 3D representation for generating combined 3D representations that combine the adjusted first 3D representation with one or more second 3D representations, wherein the second 3D representations are generated via the second technique.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method comprising: at a processor of a device: obtaining a first three-dimensional (3D) representation of at least a first portion of a user; obtaining a sample 3D representation of at least a second portion of the user, wherein the first portion represents at least a part of the user that is different than the second portion of the user; filtering the sample 3D representation based on identifying parts of the sample 3D representation corresponding to non-skin features; adjusting the first 3D representation by adjusting one or more colors of the first 3D representation based on colors in the first 3D representation and colors in the filtered sample 3D representation; and providing the adjusted first 3D representation for generating combined 3D representations combining the adjusted first 3D representation with one or more second 3D representations.
