Samsung patents robot that slows down when placed on a shelf
Samsung has filed a patent for an electronic device that moves around using a map of its surroundings. The device uses sensors to detect if it is picked up and placed at a specific height, such as on a table or shelf. If the device is placed at a height within a certain range, it automatically switches to a slower driving mode to operate safely in that new position.
In the filing’s own words
An electronic apparatus and a control method thereof are disclosed. The electronic apparatus operates in a first driving state in which the electronic apparatus moves based on a first map of an area in which the electronic apparatus is located. The electronic apparatus identifies whether the electronic apparatus was lifted while operating in the first driving state. Based on identifying that the electronic apparatus was lifted, the electronic apparatus obtains information about a height at which the electronic apparatus is placed after being lifted based on a sensing value obtained from at least one sensor. When the height is within a first range, the electronic apparatus operates in a second driving state in which a speed of the electronic apparatus is limited to less than a first value. Accordingly, the electronic apparatus controls a driving state based on the height at which the electronic apparatus is placed after being lifted.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic apparatus comprising: at least one sensor; a driver; memory storing at least one instruction; and one or more processors operatively connected to the at least one sensor, the driver, and the memory, wherein at least one instruction, when executed by the one or more processors individually or collectively, causes the electronic apparatus to: identify whether the electronic apparatus was lifted while the electronic apparatus is operating in a first driving state based on a first map of an area where the electronic apparatus is located; based on the electronic apparatus being lifted while the electronic apparatus is operating in the first driving state, obtain information about a height at which the electronic apparatus is placed after being lifted based on a sensing value obtained from the at least one sensor, and based on the height being within a first range, operate in a second driving state, wherein a speed of the electronic apparatus is limited to less than a first value in the second driving state.
