Sony patents wireless tech to reduce waiting time in multi-band devices
Sony has been granted a patent for a method that helps wireless devices manage multiple frequency bands more efficiently. The system sends a control signal in one band to coordinate when and where to switch to another band for data transmission, aiming to cut down on idle waiting periods.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure relates to a wireless communication device and a method that make it possible to suppress an increase in transmission standby time. A wireless communication unit capable of wireless communication in a plurality of frequency bands is controlled to transmit a control signal in a second frequency band in which transmission is possible, the control signal being for wireless communication in a first frequency band. Additionally, a wireless communication unit capable of wireless communication in a plurality of frequency bands is controlled to receive a control signal in a second frequency band in which reception is possible, the control signal being for wireless communication in a first frequency band. The present disclosure can be applied, for example, to wireless communication devices, electronic devices, wireless communication methods, programs, and the like.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A first wireless communication device, comprising: circuitry configured to: control wireless communication in a plurality of frequency bands that includes a first frequency band and a second frequency band; determine a respective back-off period of each of the plurality of frequency bands; control transmission of a control signal to a second wireless communication device in the second frequency band based on an end of the respective back-off period for the second frequency band, wherein the control signal includes first information that requests the second wireless communication device to provide a notification of the first frequency band in which the wireless communication is to be performed by the first wireless communication device, the control signal is for the wireless communication in the first frequency band of the plurality of frequency bands, and the control signal further includes second information that indicates a plurality of candidates for the first frequency band in which the wireless communication is to be performed by the first wireless communication device; determine execution of synchronized communication in the first frequency band and the second frequency band; and control reception of a response signal from the second wireless communication device based on the transmission of the control signal, wherein the response signal includes third information that indicates the first frequency band among the plurality of frequency bands in which the wireless communication is to be performed by the first wireless communication device.
