Samsung patents TV feature to mix HDR and standard video in one view
This patent describes a display system that shows multiple video sources on one screen, such as a picture-in-picture layout. It adjusts the brightness of both high-quality HDR videos and standard videos so they look consistent when displayed together.
In the filing’s own words
A display apparatus includes a display; a communication interface including circuitry; and a processor configured to: based on a plurality of contents received from a plurality of source devices through the communication interface in a multi-view mode, obtain a first frame including each of the received plurality of contents in different areas of the display, obtain a second frame to which High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing is applied by performing tone mapping based on first luminance information on each of the plurality of contents included in the first frame, and control the display to display the second frame.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A display apparatus comprising: a display; a communication interface comprising circuitry; and a processor configured to: based on a plurality of contents comprising at least one High Dynamic Range (HDR) content and one or more other contents received from a plurality of source devices through the communication interface in a multi-view mode, obtain a first frame by positioning each of the received plurality of contents in different areas of the display, the one or more other contents including Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) content; obtain first luminance information on each of the plurality of contents included in the first frame; perform tone mapping on the at least one HDR content based on the first luminance information and apply HDR processing on the at least one HDR content; perform tone mapping on each of the one or more other contents based on the first luminance information and apply HDR processing on the one or more other contents; obtain a second frame comprising the at least one HDR content on which the tone mapping is performed and to which HDR processing is applied and the one or more other contents on which the tone mapping is performed and to which HDR processing is applied, and control the display to display the second frame.
