Sony patents method for adjusting data channel timing in mobile networks

Sony has been granted a patent for a communication method that allows a mobile device to adjust how it receives data from a base station. The system uses specific signals to determine whether data is scheduled in larger time blocks or smaller, symbol-level units, allowing the device to map the data to specific frequency resources.

Why it mattersThis is a technical improvement for 5G network efficiency that helps devices manage data reception more precisely, though it is unlikely to be visible to end users.

In the filing’s own words

A terminal device that communicates with a base station device includes: a higher layer processing unit configured to set an STTI channel setting through signaling of a higher layer from the base station device; and a receiving unit configured to receive a first PDSCH in a case in which the STTI channel setting is not set and receive a second PDSCH in a case in which the STTI channel setting is set. The first PDCCH is mapped to one or more resource blocks, the second PDCCH is mapped to one or more sub resource blocks, and the second PDSCH is demodulated using a reference signal mapped to a symbol including the sub resource block or a resource element before the symbol.

What exactly they claim (claim 1)

1. A terminal device that communicates with a base station device, the terminal device comprising: circuitry configured to set bitmap information indicating resource that can be mapped within a predetermined time domain defined by a plurality of symbols, based on a first upper layer signaling from the base station device; set resource block information in a frequency direction to which a channel can be mapped, based on a second upper layer signaling from the base station device, the second upper layer signaling being different from the first upper layer signaling; receive the channel which indicates a mapping mode, from the base station device; and set a first mode or a second mode of the mapping mode, wherein the channel is mapped to at least one of one or more channel candidates within the resource which is determined based on the bitmap information and the resource block information, wherein a schedule timing in the first mode is performed in units of the predetermined time domain, and a schedule timing in the second mode is performed in units of the symbol.
