Google patents radar device that tracks sleep for two people in one bed
This patent describes a contactless sleep monitor that uses radar to track movement without requiring wearables. It can distinguish between two people sleeping in the same bed by separating their movement data and analyzing each person's sleep independently.
In the filing’s own words
Various devices, systems and methods for performing contactless monitoring of the sleep of multiple users over a same time period are presented herein. A determination may be made that two users are present within the region. In response to determining that two users are present, a first portion of the data may be mapped to a first user and a second portion of the data may be mapped to a second user. Separate sleep analyses are performed for the first user and the second user.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A contactless sleep analysis device for monitoring multiple users, comprising: a housing; a radar sensor, housed by the housing, that emits radar and generates radar data based on radar reflections, wherein the contactless sleep analysis device is configured to be pointed toward a bed where one or more users sleep; a processing system, comprising one or more processors, housed by the housing, in communication with the radar sensor, wherein the processing system is configured to: receive radar data from the radar sensor; process the radar data from the radar sensor, comprising applying a movement filter to remove radar data indicative of static objects, wherein the processed radar data comprises a first dimension representative of distance, a second dimension representative of magnitude; determine that two users are present; after determining that the two users are present: assign a first portion of the processed radar data to a first user; and assign a second portion of the processed radar data to a second user; perform a first sleep analysis on the first portion of the processed radar data for the first user; perform a second sleep analysis on the second portion of the processed radar data for the second user, the second sleep analysis being independent of the first sleep analysis; and output sleep information for the first user based on the first sleep analysis.
