Nvidia patents AI method to pick best wireless signal beams

This patent describes a system that uses neural networks to choose the best direction for wireless signals. It works by comparing nearby signal options and picking the one with the best score based on how close it is to other potential beams.

Why it mattersIt could help improve the stability and speed of 5G and future wireless connections by making signal selection smarter.

In the filing’s own words

Apparatuses, systems, and techniques to identify and select a wireless signal beam. In at least one embodiment, a wireless signal beam is identified and selected using a determined angle of arrival of one or more wireless signals at a base station or UE.

What exactly they claim (claim 1)

1. One or more processors, comprising: circuitry to: use one or more neural networks to select one or more wireless signal beams from a circular array codebook, to be used to transmit one or more signals based, at least in part, on: assigning a score based, at least in part, on a difference between a codebook index distance associated with a first beam and a codebook index distance associated with a second beam of the circular array codebook, wherein the second beam is an adjacent neighbor to the first beam according to the circular array codebook; and selecting the one or more wireless signal beams based on the score.
