Disney patents system that checks if you washed your hands correctly
Disney has been granted a patent for a system that monitors whether people follow specific hygiene or operational procedures, such as handwashing. It uses cameras and sensors to identify the user, track their movements, and analyze their actions to determine if they are complying with the required steps. If the system detects non-compliance, it can provide feedback or restrict access to the next step of the process.
In the filing’s own words
A method of monitoring a user performing a handwashing procedure, including: recognizing a user based upon biometric information obtained at a handwashing station, a user; detecting use of a component of the handwashing station; capturing image data of the user at the handwashing station; capturing data describing components and consumables used at the handwashing station; analyzing, using a processor, the image data; determining compliance with a handwashing procedure based at least in part on the analysis of the image data and the use of the component; and communicating compliance information.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A system for monitoring compliance with an operational process, comprising: a sensor configured to sense data pertaining to actions of a human actor; an indicator including at least one of a display or an audio system; and an analytics platform including a processor storing instructions thereon that, when executed, cause the analytics platform to perform operations including: determining an identity of the human actor based on an identifier in the data from the sensor; determining locations of the human actor in a space, the locations including a previous location of the human actor in the space and a current location of the human actor in the space; retrieving the operational process to be performed by the human actor using both the identity of the human actor and at least one of the locations of the human actor in the space; determining, based on the operational process and the identity of the human actor, a compliance step of the operational process, the compliance step dynamically determined based on the locations of the human actor, wherein at least one of the locations of the human actor is determined using a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag or a near field communication device; processing the data from the sensor during performance of the operational process to determine a degree of compliance; and sending a signal related to a feedback to the indicator based on the degree of compliance, the indicator configured to update an output of the indicator in response to the signal, the output including at least one of a visual notification via the display or an audio notification via the audio system; wherein, in response to the degree of compliance being above a threshold, at least one of: (i) the analytics platform is configured to send a control signal to a portion of the system to allow the human actor to perform at least one additional step of the operational process or (ii) the indicator is configured to provide the output to indicate instructions on the at least one additional step of the operational process.
