Samsung patents vacuum cleaner that spins to shake off dust
Samsung has been granted a patent for a vacuum cleaner dust collector that uses a spinning internal component to remove stuck debris. The device features a cyclone module that separates dust from air, and when the dust bin is opened, this module rotates to shake loose particles into the bin. When the bin is closed, the mechanism locks the spinning part in place to prevent movement during use.
In the filing’s own words
Provided is a dust collector of a vacuum cleaner, the dust collector including a dust collecting casing including an air inlet, an air outlet, and a foreign substance discharge port, a cyclone module configured to separate foreign substances by inducing a swirling flow of air drawn in via the air inlet, and a discharge door switchable between an open position in which the foreign substance discharge port is opened and a closed position in which the foreign substance discharge port is closed, wherein the cyclone module includes a fixed part and a rotating part having a rotating state in which it is allowed to rotate with respect to the fixed part when the discharge door is in the open position and a locked state in which it is prevented from rotating with respect to the fixed part when the discharge door is in the closed position.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A dust collector comprising: a dust collecting casing including an air inlet, an air outlet, and a foreign substance discharge port; a cyclone module inside the dust collecting casing, wherein the dust collecting casing and the cyclone module are configured so that air and foreign substances are drawn into the dust collecting casing through the air inlet, the foreign substances drawn into the dust collecting casing are separated from the air drawn into the dust collecting casing by the cyclone module, the separated foreign substances are dischargeable from the dust collecting casing through the foreign substance discharge port, and the air from which the foreign substances are separated is expelled through the air outlet; and a discharge door configured to be switchable between an open position in which the foreign substance discharge port is opened and a closed position in which the foreign substance discharge port is closed, wherein the cyclone module includes: a fixed part fixed to the dust collecting casing, a rotating part, and at least one bearing structure rotatably supporting the rotating part with respect to the fixed part, and the dust collecting casing, the cyclone module, and the discharge door are configured so that, when the discharge door is in the open position, the rotating part is in a rotating state in which the rotating part is rotatable with respect to the fixed part via the at least one bearing structure and air flow generated in the dust collecting casing, and rotation of the rotating part with respect to the fixed part via the at least one bearing structure and the air flow causes foreign substances adhering to a surface of the cyclone module to be separated from the surface of the cyclone module and then discharged through the foreign substance discharge port, and, when the discharge door is in the closed position, the rotating part is in a locked state in which the rotating part is prevented from rotating with respect to the fixed part.
