Samsung patents earbuds that switch to singing mode when you start singing
Samsung has been granted a patent for wireless earbuds that listen to the sounds around you to decide how to play audio. The device detects if you are singing and automatically switches to a mode that mixes your voice with music, while keeping a different mode for regular conversations.
In the filing’s own words
A wireless audio device includes a memory including instructions; and a processor operatively connected to the memory and configured to execute the instructions to: detect an audio signal, determine, based on an analysis result of the audio signal, an operation mode of the wireless audio device to be one of a singing mode and a dialogue mode, and control an output signal of the wireless audio device according to the determined operation mode, wherein the dialogue mode is configured to output one or more ambient sounds included in the audio signal, and wherein the singing mode is configured to output one or more media sounds and the one or more ambient sounds included in the audio signal.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A wireless audio device comprising: memory storing instructions; and a processor including processing circuitry, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the wireless audio device to: detect an audio signal, determine, based on an analysis result of the audio signal, an operation mode of the wireless audio device to be one of a singing mode and a dialogue mode, wherein the dialogue mode is configured to output one or more ambient sounds comprised in the audio signal and the singing mode is configured to output one or more media sounds and the one or more ambient sounds comprised in the audio signal, and control an output signal of the wireless audio device according to the determined operation mode, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the wireless audio device to determine the operation mode of the wireless audio device by: while a current sensitivity level associated with activation of the singing mode is a first sensitivity level, activating the singing mode based on the analysis result of the audio signal satisfying an activation condition according to the first sensitivity level, wherein the activation condition according to the first sensitivity level includes continuously detecting a singing voice from the one or more ambient sounds for a duration of frames longer than a threshold number of frames adjusted based on a noise level, while the current sensitivity level associated with determining activation of the singing mode is a second sensitivity level, activating the singing mode based on the analysis result satisfying both the activation condition according to the first sensitivity level and an activation condition according to the second sensitivity level, while the current sensitivity level associated with determining activation of the singing mode is a third sensitivity level, activating the singing mode based on the analysis result satisfying all of the activation condition according to the first sensitivity level, the activation condition according to the second sensitivity level, and an activation condition according to the third sensitivity level, and wherein the current sensitivity level is set by a user.
