Microsoft patents system that auto-fixes cloud slowdowns to meet service promises

This patent describes a system that monitors how fast cloud applications run from the user's perspective. It identifies when apps are slowing down, counts how many are affected, and automatically adjusts network resources to fix the issue if performance drops below a set standard.

Why it mattersIt helps cloud providers automatically fix performance problems before users notice, ensuring they stick to their service quality contracts.

In the filing’s own words

Described are examples for providing service level monitoring for a network hosting applications as a cloud service. A service level monitoring device may receive end-to-end measurements of service usage collected at user devices for a plurality of applications hosted as a cloud services. The service level monitoring device may determine degraded applications of the plurality of applications based on anomalies in the measurements. The service level monitoring device may determine a service level metric based on an aggregation of the degraded applications. In some examples, the service level monitoring device may detect a network outage affecting the service.

What exactly they claim (claim 1)

1. A system comprising: a processing system; and memory comprising computer executable instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising: receiving end-to-end measurements of service performance for an application hosted on a network; identifying the application is experiencing degraded performance based on an anomaly in the end-to-end measurements; based on an aggregation of a plurality of applications experiencing degraded performance, determining a service level metric by determining a count of the plurality of applications experiencing degraded performance exceeds a threshold number; comparing the service level metric to a service level agreement (SLA); determining the service level metric does not satisfy the SLA; and adjusting an allocation of network resources for the application to satisfy the SLA.
